Australian Bulldog Funday's

There is always a lot of sugggestion for these events, but there is alot more to consider before choosing a date, venue and spreading the word.
While get togethers provide a great opportunity for Australian Bulldog owners to catch up, check out each others dogs and share experiences, it's important to remember too, that dogs don't always have the same set of social skills that we do....Be prepared....Keep in mind that some unsocialized dogs may think it's perfectly ok to try and bite another dog on their first meeting.
For the person or people who have taken it upon themselves to organize a funday you need to have a set of guidelines for all owners to follow on the funday and also some sort of liability document for all people/owners present at the funday to sign against any legal action being taken against you in the case of any mishaps.
Some guidelines may include eg:
To ensure this get together is a funday for all owners please follow these guidelines.
*Make sure your dog has 'plenty' of fresh water.
*All dogs are to remain on a lead & be kept under effective control.
*Before allowing your dog to approach another dog please ask the owner of the dog if it is ok - the same applies to patting other dogs.
*All dogs attending should be fully immunised.
*All owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. (Make sure doggy bags are available).
You maybe thinking to yourself now, that these guidelines are a little extreme but remember - dogs will be dogs.
Your dog maybe well behaved and placid at home, but put him/her in a strange potentially threatening situation and you may see a different side to them.
This is all about responsible dog ownership, remembering your dog is a canine, not a human should ensure a trouble free day.
Make sure all those coming that will be present at the funday (with or with-out dogs) are aware they must sign a liability document upon arrival.
An example of this (based on Joe Bloggs) may read something like this:

I (Print Name)_______________- acknowledge the risks associated with this funday and agree to take full responsibility for myself and my dog/dogs in the event that we should be harmed in any way.
I also acknowledge/ agree that Joe Bloggs (organiser) will be in no way or under any circumstances be held responsible for any loss, damages or costs incurred due to any accidents or events causing or alleged to have been caused, injury or death to myself or my dog/s.
______________________________ Please sign and Date.

You may wish to change or add relevant information to this so that it is more suitable to your gathering.
Based on all this information, we all had a wonderful Aussie Bulldog Funday here in W.A. in 2005.
A date in October (not too hot or cold weather) was chosen together with a fantastic location, a councils dog exercise grassed area right on the shady swan river (a good spot for the dogs to have a paddle).
Also available were barbecues, swings, playgrounds and public toilets.
We had a excellent turn out of about 25 dogs and their owners, with alot of them travelling from country areas to attend.
We all had a really Fun-day and everyone voted to make it an annual event.
